10 Tick-Eating NY Natives

Frogs & toads, chipmunks, squirrels, ducks, turkeys, woodpeckers, raccoons, opposums, spiders, and quails are some examples of wild animals that eat ticks.

These critters call Long Island their home and make a meal out of our most dangerous pest. While we do not encourage trying to attract these wild animals to your yard, we do advocate against the destruction of their homes and environment by homeowners and pesticide applicators. The only exceptions we recommend are birdhouses and birdbaths*. This will help attract wild birds whose habitat is rapidly disappearing in New York.

*Bird feeders, however will not help with your tick problem! Feeders may attract our feathered friends but why would a bird (or squirrel) with a belly full of your finest grain and seed hunt for bugs? Stick to birdhouses and bird baths, they’ll find their own meals.
