Spotted Lanternfly Update

These nuisance pests continue to show themselves on Long Island. In large numbers, feeding creates sticky “honeydew” which is unhygienic for nearby plants and just plain yucky on patio furniture and cars, etc.

The good news for homeowners is that these bugs tend to stick to their main host plants Ailanthus and grape. You may see some stray lanternflies passing through but if you don’t have these 2 plants you are not likely to experience a full infestation.

These are not ornamental landscape trees, they tend to grow in abandoned lots, along highways, or other un-maintained spaces.
