Cottony Scales

BUGWATCH: Cottony Scales can be found on a variety of trees and shrubs in late spring through summer in NY. They’re very noticeable on the underside of leaves as large white masses with a yellow/brown “egg yolk”. These are actually insects that feed on plants and create honeydew. This can cause early leafdrop and invite sooty mold.
